First Day of School

First Day of School
October 1, 2009
By Sam

"Sam, Sam, time to get up." My blankets got lifted off of my exhausted body and I heard the soft footsteps of my dad as he left the room. I reluctantly turned over and looked at my calendar. "UGH!" I groaned, it was the first day of school! I grumpily rolled out of bed, but as I did my little sis came in and wailed, "GET UP, IT'S TIME TO GET READY!" She startled me and with a bone-rattling thud, I smacked the ground, of course she was satisfied and ran out of the room. I got up, straightened out my shirt and thought to myself, "it's gonna be a long day."

I groaned and moaned as I got dressed and hauled myself out into the kitchen. The sweet smell of French toast and omelets sailed through the threshold and up my nostrils. I grabbed some toast and a fork, some syrup and dragged my feet as I inched closer to the table. I lowered myself down to the table and drizzled syrup all over my French toast. As I ate, I tossed the thought around in my head about going back to bed, but decided not to.

After breakfast, I went and brushed my teeth and plodded to the front door, down the stairs and out to school. When I got there, I saw everyone from last year and Mrs. Sees smiling face. She explained some rules and where things were. We mostly colored all day and then we went home. When I got outside, everything seemed the exact opposite of that morning. I could tell it was going to be a great school year with old friends and the BEST teacher!

What I Found in My Locker

What I Found in My Locker
by: Sam Carton
September 17,2009

A smelly hobo named Nick
An analog clock that doesn't tick
A half read book with jelly stains
A broken umbrella for when it rains
A pair of gym socks filled with pudding
A bunch of ants that can't get their footing
A cell phone that says call from dad
Answered it, moms really mad
A fuzzy pink haired troll
And red cord that says DO NOT PULL!!!
And one more thing, I must confess
A note from teacher; clean this mess!

A Strange Day in July

A Strange Day in July

The car rumbled into the driveway to their beach house. Jason and Jill ran inside. "Whoa, this place is as big as a circus!" Jason trotted to the table for lunch, followed by Jill. Jason gobbled down some ham and cheese for lunch and Jill had roast beef and pickles.
After lunch Jason and Jill put on their bathing suits and strolled down to the beach. On their way there, they met an old sailor, he was smiling and waving. Jill was very friendly so she greeted him. "Have you kids seen anything strange around here?"
"No, why?"
"Keep your eyes out and remember this, everything is not what it seems." Jill and Jason kept walking down to the beach.
Jason found some nice smooth skipping stones. With a mighty windup, he flung the stone half way across the lake. He got 17 skips and had a proud look on his face. Jill only got 4 skips when she threw the stone. Jason went and found 2 more perfect skipping stones. Jason wound up and got 6 more skips than last time. He did it again, only this time he came within spitting distance of the end of the lake. Jason went to get more stones from the beach, but the stone came skipping back.
Jason picked up the stone and chucked it across the entire lake. He wanted to see it come skipping back. To Jason's surprise, it did. Jill looked puzzled and Jason could bet all his allowance that she was thinking, it grew legs and walked back. He knew that couldn't happen, but Jason thought the stone coming back was was weirder than a flying pig. Jason was at the end of his rope to get this stone not to come back. He tried one more time. Jason wound up and tossed with all is might. The stone made it all the way across the lake again. To both the kids astonishment, the stone came skipping back.
Jason and Jill were trotting back to the house when they met the sailor again, and noticed he had the stone. Jill knew it was their stone because of the white mark all the way around the stone. The sailor didn't say a word. He flipped the stone in his fingers, handed it to Jill and disappeared into mist. "Wow that trip to the beach is carved in stone. On that note, lets go home Jill."
